Throughout my career, I have always felt that it was important to give back to the community. To that end, KWD has been involved with numerous charitable organizations both in and out of the design industry.
In 2015, I was fortunate to have been selected to participate in the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford project. This project creates a home-away-from-home and supportive community for families of children with life-threatening illnesses receiving specialized treatment at local hospitals.
The dining room we designed was just featured in San Francisco Cottages & Gardens magazine and was selected for the cover. (view the article)
The San Francisco Decorator Showcase is widely considered to be the West Coast’s premier design showhouse event, renowned for featuring the work of the region’s top interior and landscape designers. All the funds raised through the Decorator Showcase go directly to support the San Francisco University High School (UHS) Financial Aid Program.
In 2014, we joined the prestegious list of designers selected for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. The Classical Revival Mansion in Presidio Heights harkened back to the glamour of old San Francisco. We honored the 1908 house by transforming the powder room and lounge into an elegant retreat. Repurposing a shallow closet, our team created an alcove bench enclosed by a Moorish arch. Jewel toned purple silk upholstered the back wall paired with a box seat in claret velvet. Benjamin Moore’s Deep Caviar as trim color tempered the bright merlot-and-orange Hermès pillows. A glass Oyster Chandelier designed by Emily Todhunter illuminated the lounge. Metallic wallpaper on the ceiling infused the space with a magical glow. On a contemporary gueridon, a gold plated Art Deco telephone added a touch of nostalgia.
In 2015, we offered our design services pro-bono to the Boy & Girls Club of the Coastside in Half Moon Bay, California. This national organization nurtures youth’s self-esteem by instilling a sense of belonging, usefulness, and influence. With daily activities and programs, the Boys and Girls Club provides youth with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to succeed in life. We are proud to have been a contributor to the final design of the façade and their new facility.
